A true Paris classic, where I first went in 1998, is the Restaurant Chartier. The place has been around since 1896 and the decor is unchanged. The place is huge, busy and noisy. You might even sit right next to some people who you don’t know, but it’s very atmospheric, very affordable and very Parisian. It used to be a train station. Main dishes start a 8.5 Euros, fish starts at 10 Euros. You can even get a glass of acceptable table wine for 1.8 Euros! Open from 11-30 a.m to 02.00 a.m.
