If you are going to Nairobi, it´s definitly worth to stop by ‘Africa’s Greatest Eating Experience’ as the Carnivore Restaurant (which means meat-eater) is called. They serve exotic meats such as zebra, crocodile and ostrich. The Carnivore doesn’t conform to the familiar restaurant traditions of passing out menus and waiting for people to order. Diners simply take their seats on the Zebra striped chairs and the movable feast begins. First comes the soup of the day then a sizzling cast-iron plate is placed in front of each guest along with a plate of home-baked brown bread and butter.
An army of carvers move from table to table carrying the Masai swords laden with different prime meats deliberately carving unlimited amounts onto the sizzling, cast iron plates in front of each guest. When you are full you raise a small white flag and then you will have dessert and Kenyan coffee. The Simba Saloon next door transforms into a popular nightclub at night.

I turned 21 at the Carnivore a long long time ago, in 1988! We danced and danced and danced. I was spending a semester in Kenya at the time, living on the wildlife ranch that sold much of the game meat to The Carnivore. I treasure my memories of four months in Kenya. Thanks for the memory jog!

Great memory! I lived in Tanzania five years ago and went to Kenya to see the Karen Blixen Museum. After living in the bush for five month it was a feast to eat at the Carnivore!
